Valencia, November 4, 2025.-

The restaurant Counterpoint Les Arts, managed by Gourmet Catering & events, accompany the World Premiere of the opera ‘enemy of the people’ With a menu that transforms into flavors the moral, political and symbolic tension of the new work of Francisco Coll. A proposal that invites you to savor, from the table, the ethical dilemmas and the human contradictions that beat in the score.
With this creation, the gastronomic space adds to a historic event: the first world premiere of an opera in the Twenty years of the Palau de les Arts. The work, signed by the Valencian composer Francisco Coll and jointly commissioned by Les Arts and the Teatro Real in Madrid, marks a milestone in the program of the Valencian Coliseum and celebrates its twentieth anniversary with a critical and contemporary look at Ibsen’s legacy.

Ibsen, Coll and the contemporary Leviathan

Based on the classic by Henrik Ibsen (1882) ‘enemy of the people’ revives the conflict between ethics and power, between the common interest and the uncomfortable truth.
Ibsen’s homonymous work, which underscored the prevalence of money on human, moral and sanitary integrity, inspired in 1973 the Jaws novel by the American Peter Benchley, which was made into a film by Steven Spielberg in Shark (1974). Now, closing a perfect circle, Francisco Coll presents his monstrous Leviathan of the 21st century: the dehumanized capitalist known today as Finance Shark.

A menu in three acts

To accompany this historic milestone, the team of Counterpoint Les Arts It proposes a menu that accompanies this journey from purity to moral corruption, playing with contrasts of flavor, texture and temperature that evoke the duality of the drama.
To start with, the endive salad with creamy blue cheese and pickled pear plays with flavors and textures to talk about truth and morality. The endive, crisp and slightly bitter, represents the uncomfortable truth. The creamy blue cheese and the pickled pear bring sweetness and acidity, like the moral nuances that complicate any just cause.
Next, the main course, a dense and comforting stew, symbolizes the strength and stubbornness of the protagonist facing power. The ox, slowly cooked, remembers the weight of the truth: a fight that simmers, until it becomes irresistible and necessary.
To finish, the nutty cake with yogurt foam, red fruit and sesame smeared, combines texture, freshness and bitter sweetness. The sponge cake and walnuts allude to the earth and the root —to the honesty of the individual—, while the mellow and the sesame evoke the pulse of the society that devours and allows itself to be devoured. A harmonious ending that invites reflection.

An experience to celebrate a historic premiere.

The menu will be available from November 5 to 9, as a proposal to prolong the artistic experience beyond the stage and savor, dish by plate, the intensity of the first world premiere of an opera in the twenty years of history of the Palau de les Arts.
