The Victor Villegas Auditorium and Congress Center It takes an important step in terms of sustainability with the implementation of a pioneering system of management and certification of food surplus based on blockchain technology, driven by Gourmet Catering & events, Exclusive gastronomic partner of the auditorium.

This initiative, which will start operating in April, is part of the recent Law for the Prevention of Loss and Food Waste approved on March 20 by Congress, whose objective is to reduce food waste in consumption and retail for half. 2030, promoting the donation and use of food.

Manage waste with blockchain technology

Gourmet Catering & Events has developed this project in collaboration with the Spanish startup Naria, whose software uses Blockchain technology To guarantee the transparency and traceability of the donations made, also allowing their certification.

Since it was launched in March 2023 in its spaces in Valencia, Gourmet Catering & events has donated More than 7,200 kg of food to people at risk of exclusion through the Valencia Food Bank, which represents a total of +17,200 servings and savings of more than 18,100 kg of CO2.

It is a pioneering initiative in the catering sector at the national level, which not only anticipates the publication of the new law, but also attends to issues of a social nature. “In Spain, almost 10% of the population faces food insecurity while a third of the food produced ends up in the garbage,” they recall from naria. “Actions like this show that innovation and social responsibility can go hand in hand to transform the food system.”

New gastronomy: local and healthy flavor

Taking advantage of these good prospects, Gourmet Catering & Events has also presented its new gastronomic proposal for the auditorium, which bets on local products from the Murcian garden, an expanded offer of healthy coffee breaks and stand-up cocktails designed especially for high-quality congresses and events.

During the presentation they were present Begoña Morales Ortiz, responsible for the area of Congresses and Events of the Víctor Villegas Auditorium; Manuel Cebrian, General Director of the Institute of Cultural Industries and the Arts (ICA); Carmen Anton, President of the Congress Office of Murcia; Ballesta Angels, Director of Murcia Convention Bureau; and Rachel Vincent, CEO of Gourmet Catering & events.

This joint commitment consolidates Murcia as a pioneering destination in sustainability, innovation and gastronomic quality in business tourism.
