From May 26 to 28, 2025, Feria Valencia hosted one of the recycling sector’s most significant international events: the BIR World Recycling Convention & Exhibition, organized by the Bureau of International Recycling (BIR). Drawing nearly 2,000 participants from 63 countries, the event transformed the city into a vibrant hub for global dialogue on sustainability, the international trade of recyclable materials, and environmental policy.
What is BIR?
Founded in 1948 and based in Brussels, the Bureau of International Recycling (BIR) is the first international federation dedicated to representing the entire recycling value chain. Its mission is clear: to promote recycling as the cornerstone of the circular economy, defend the free trade of recyclable materials, and foster global collaboration.
With over 1,000 member companies and 36 national organizations in 71 countries, BIR is structured into five major material divisions: iron and steel, non-ferrous metals, paper, plastics, and textiles. It also has specialized committees on key topics such as stainless steel, tires, electronics, and environmental regulation.
Its motto says it all:
“Recycling: the silent engine of the circular economy.”

An international edition that leaves a mark: BIR 2025 in Valencia
Feria Valencia proved to be the ideal venue for an event of this magnitude. Its modern facilities, flawless logistics, and excellent international connectivity guaranteed the organizational success of this global meeting.
But beyond the event’s strategic importance, one element did not go unnoticed: the gastronomic experience.
A local, sustainable, and unprecedented gastronomic experience
Gourmet Catering & Events was responsible for offering a unique culinary proposal based on local products, creativity, and excellence in service.
Breakfasts, lunches, and snacks were served daily, each day offering a completely different menu with no repeats. This rich and diverse variety was made possible thanks to the Valencian orchards. The quality of seasonal products and a deep understanding of the local culinary tradition took center stage throughout the three days of the congress.
From natural horchatas with fartons, to salads with tomatoes from El Perelló, to creamy seasonal rice with organic vegetables. Every bite was an opportunity to showcase the gastronomic richness of the Valencian Community. All this was done with a sustainable, zero-food-waste approach aligned with BIR’s values.
