The restaurant at the Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía presents a new special menu inspired by Bizet’s opera to celebrate the arrival in Valencia of Ted Huffman’s groundbreaking production.
Contrapunto Les Arts, the restaurant at the Palau de les Arts managed by Gourmet Catering & Eventos, presents a special themed menu to celebrate the premiere of Georges Bizet’s Carmen. With Andalusian roots, a Spanish soul and a subtle French accent, the menu brings to the table some of the contrasts that run through one of the most universal works in the operatic repertoire. It will be available from 2 to 15 October, coinciding with the performances at Les Arts.
The new Les Arts production offers a groundbreaking, theatrical interpretation of the opera that moves away from the more folkloric imagery traditionally associated with Carmen, under the direction of stage director Ted Huffman.
This meeting of tradition and contemporary creativity also provides the starting point for the gastronomic proposal at Contrapunto Les Arts.
The menu begins with almond ajoblanco, miso tomato, grapes and a sherry reduction, finished with a touch of smoked sardine. One of the great classics of Andalusian cuisine is brought into contemporary territory through miso and smoky notes.
For the main course, guests can choose between meat and fish.
The first option is roasted Iberian pork presa with seasonal wild mushrooms and Spanish sauce. The alternative looks towards the Guadalquivir: grilled estuary sea bass with paprika meunière sauce and mashed potato, bringing together a product from southern Spain with one of the classic sauces of French cuisine.
The menu concludes with dark chocolate, bitter orange and red berries, a dessert built around intensity and contrast as the final act.
With this new menu, Contrapunto Les Arts continues to connect its gastronomic offering with the opera programme, creating a culinary interpretation of each production to be experienced through taste.
The special Carmen menu will be available at Contrapunto Les Arts from 2 to 15 October, on the days when the opera is being performed.
